What if God was One of Us?

"What if God was one of us?... just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home" -Joan Osborne

What is the word "God" anyway?  G-d first and foremost, is a word that seems to have been created as a placeholder for what humans can't quite understand.  It is a word for something that is beyond words and beyond our capacity for thought.

(Can what empowers the speaker, and the words, really be spoken?)

What if God lived in you, as you, but you didn't know it?  What if God was seeing you, as you, from beyond who you think you are?

What if every single person came to this deep realization and knowing, within themselves, that every interaction was with God.... within themselves, and within others too.. and all of Life around them was precious (as theirs was to them)?

How would my world change over night if I treated people as though every one I came into contact with was me?

Wouldn't wars cease?  Wouldn't the illusion of lack disappear?  Wouldn't abuse cease?  Wouldn't violence cease?  Wouldn't the desire to control and profit seem silly?  Wouldn't the desire to be "better" than anyone seem ridiculous? Could religion really be used in the name of God, to destroy God!?  Could we really tolerate any more "collateral damage"?  Would we really need religion anymore to tell "us" how to connect to an external God?

Wouldn't products and services be that much more useful, if we made them as though they were for God?

Wouldn't life turn into an instant miracle!?  Knowing that every time you made eye contact with another, you were peering into the eyes of God?

What an amazing new opportunity with every interaction!  So, it's an interesting question to ask, who is God?

Perhaps the more overlooked, but also interesting question is:

Who are you?

Quotes:

Realization is not acquisition of anything new nor is it a new faculty. It is only removal of all camouflage  -Sri Ramana Maharshi

Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Just a personal note: There is nothing new under the sun. I am just attempting to present info. here that has helped me. I hope to present it in a clear way based on my experience with anxiety which was a spiritual, psychological and emotional awakening for me. In retrospect of this experience I have been reading as much as I could to come to a deeper and more grounded understanding of this seemingly mystical thing that happened to me (so that I could share it with you). I'm not a doctor or a scientist. Please know this is only my experience. Yours will obviously be different, but since my experience was so similar to others I've talked to, I am hoping this may be helpful or useful to you in some way. It's also a way that I hope to share the love with you. That is my purpose here.
